What are the functions of a circuit board?

"The two most important functions of circuit board are the following: • It gives mechanical support for the electronic components • It interconnects the components to each other and provides input/output connections so that the electronics can interact with the user Circuit boards generally have components like memory chips, processors, input/output devices and also electrical components like resistors and capacitators. As technology has advanced in the recent years circuit boards have gradually become smaller accommodating more number of components. In fact, capacitators are now embedded into circuit boards which in turn increase the efficiency of circuit boards and with course of time, circuits have also become smaller. Circuit boards have several uses and they are integral to the electronic industry. They are used to connect LCD monitor to computers, disk drives and hard disk drives, and read and write drives like CD-ROM and DVD drives. In the telecom industry circuit boards are attached to metal plates to create a metal-backed assembly. "
